Directed by Tod Browning (Freaks) this silent horror film was the stylistic predecessor of macabre shows such as The Twilight Zone. Lon Chaney stars as an armless knife thrower in one of his greatest performances alongside Joan Crawford, who peforms as the androphobic daughter of the circus owner. Composer and electronic musician Bill Sack has written a new score to accompany the film, featuring the sounds of programmed robotics, gadgets and gizmos.
