Seeking a media arts professional to teach West Side Studios:

Squeaky Wheel Film & Media Arts Center is seeking a qualified media arts teacher for West Side Studios starting September 26, 2016. Candidates should have professional media arts experience in camera operations and audio recording; video editing and audio mixing; graphic design and animation; as well as teaching experience and strong pedagogical skill sets for this part time position.

Desired skill sets include:

  • Video Production & Post-Production (proficiency in prosumer level camera operations, and Premiere, Final Cut Pro and Consumer software)
  • Audio Production & Post-Production (proficiency in prosumer level audio recording, and ProTools, Audacity and Consumer software)
  • New media production skills (ideal, but not required)
  • NYS Teaching Certification (ideal, but not required)
  • Experience teaching high school age youth and/or young adults

The right candidate will be at ease working with high school youth, some of whom are English language learners and will be available Monday and Wednesday evenings between 5-7pm beginning September 26, 2016 and running through December 14, 2016

Curatorial Intern:

The Curatorial Intern will work with the Media Arts Curator Ekrem Serdar to help organize, promote, and maintain Squeaky Wheel’s screenings, exhibitions, and special events. Successful applicant will work a total of 100 hours between August 29th and December 9th for 2 Credit Hours. Hours will be negotiated between intern and media arts curator to work with their respective schedules. Successful applicant will be assigned a budget with which they will develop, curate and organize a screening, to be presented the following semester. Other Responsibilities include:
-Assist with the organization and presentation of Squeaky events, including installation, selling tickets and concessions. A minimum of one per month.
-Help significantly with preparations for Squeaky Wheel’s fundraiser party, scheduled for September 24th, 2016
-Hold some regular office hours where they will be expected to greet guests to Squeaky Wheel.
-Help manage social media and online marketing: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram.
-Assist with hospitality and operations with visiting artists and resident artists.
-Update website postings using provided texts.
-Draft emails for upcoming events and opportunities using MailChimp for general public and the press. Upload press releases to various services.
-Assist with other office administration and related tasks, as needed

Qualified candidates must demonstrate:
-A research-oriented passion for the moving image in all its facets.
-Proficiency in WordPress, or basic html.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Attention to detail
-Experience working independently
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
-Knowledge or interest in contemporary arts and arts administration
-A commitment of 8 hours each week, with 4 hours dedicated to the presentation of their screening the following season.
-Over the age of 21
-Reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications
-Knowledge of the history of alternative moving images (video art, experimental film and video, artists moving image, etc).
-A knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator).
