New techARTS Partner: Locust Street Neighborhood Arts
This year, Squeaky Wheel is working with Locust Street Neighborhood Arts center to provide another season of techARTS for Girls. Eight girls have been working with techARTS instructor, Tammy Wetzel, to create self-portraits, logo designs and lots of other digital art projects during the Thursday after-school techARTS sessions. Visit the techARTS blog to see their newest creations.

Program
techARTS for Girls is a community action project to encourage girls form the city of Buffalo and Erie County to learn about and use computers.

Each week girls meet at Squeaky Wheel located at 712 Main Street, to work with computer and media professionals from different fileds - but who all use the computer in their professional work. During that time they are taught fun, exciting computer programs by Squeaky Wheel staff and volunteers. Girls then work individually and in teams to produce digital artwork, self-portraits and record sound.

At 1-2 meetings per session, a guest woman computer scientist, or artist utilizing technology will speak and answer quesstions about why she chose her field. This program offers nationally known artists and technologists the opportunity to act as mentors.

Funders
techARTS for Girls has received support from Open Meadows Foundation, Hodgson Russ LLP, Children's Foundation of Erie County, Jr. League of Buffalo, Ronald McDonald House Charities of W.N.Y., American Association of University Women, Joseph C. Cornell Foundation and Starbucks Foundation.
